MIAMI – A Miami police officer was struck by a pickup truck Monday while on his motorcycle during a funeral procession, authorities said.

Police said Officer Johnathan John, a seven-year veteran with the police department, was directing traffic near the entrance ramp of Interstate 95 northbound at Southwest 25th Street Road about 12:30 p.m. when he was struck by a Ford F-150.

John was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center in stable condition.

Miami police spokesman Ernest Lawrence said the officer suffered minor injuries and is expected to be OK. Lawrence said the officer is "in very good spirits" and could be released later in the day.

The driver of the gray pickup truck stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

Lawrence said the driver was not part of the funeral procession and was not injured in the crash.

It's unclear whether the driver will be cited.
